Empowerment for Gender Equality and Respect
Since 2017 HWA has been organizing trainings for Afghan asylum seekers with two separate groups (Under 18 and above 18). HWA organized a training program for underage Afghan asylum seekers, focusing on gender equality, sexual harassment, and individual rights and freedom. These young people face challenges in an unfamiliar society, often without a clear understanding of their opportunities.
The training combined interactive workshops, group discussions, and role-playing exercises to address topics such as gender equality, individual rights and freedom and domestic violence. Participants gained practical skills to recognize inappropriate behaviour and find resources, strengthening their confidence and resilience.
Bridging to an inclusive society
As part of HWA’s Social Education Project, the training helps newcomers integrate by informing them about Belgian norms and values. Thanks to collaboration with Fedasil Kapellen and Deurne asylum centre. Since 2024, we have decided that these training should be conducted in HWA office instead of in asylum centres.
Focus on sustainable change
The training promotes gender equality, personal freedom, and respect as the foundation for a healthy society. HWA collaborates with partners to foster inclusion and equality and achieve positive change.
