Afghan Advisory Committee
The Afghan Advisory Committee is a consultation platform that focuses on specific cases and policy issues concerning the Afghan community in Belgium. The committee consists of experts and representatives with in-depth knowledge of Afghan culture and the Belgian legal system and have working experience in supporting victims and handling cases of violence. They provide advice and support on cases that reach HWA, whether through official channels such as FJC, the Justice House, or the police—where Belgian governmental organizations have been unable to resolve cultural, social, personal, or familial conflicts—or through direct referrals from the community, where conflicts arise between individuals.
Based on expertise and practical experience, the committee helps formulate targeted solutions and recommendations.
Additionally, the committee plays a crucial role in analyzing international developments that impact Afghans in Belgium. Local institutions often encounter cultural and legal challenges due to the current situation in Afghanistan. Through case analysis and policy input, it contributes to a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by this community. It supports HWA by providing advice and expertise that help identify and address social and legal issues within the Afghan community.
The committee addresses a wide range of topics, from integration issues and social challenges within the Afghan community to legal matters related to Afghanistan. As a consultative body, it offers expert insights that enable HWA to inform institutions and professionals about the specific needs and rights of Afghans in Belgium. This not only strengthens HWA’s role in identifying key issues but also contributes to sustainable solutions for complex social and legal challenges.
