What is the project about?
With the project Changemakers for Gender Equality, the Humanitarian Welfare Association aims to empower young people to talk about gender inequality and actively tackle it. Unequal expectations, discrimination, and exclusion affect many young people today—both with and without a migration background—and limit their opportunities and well-being.
Ten changemakers will be recruited through the Afghan Advisory Council, the Women’s Council, interns, and participants in ongoing activation pathways. Many of them have experienced inequality in their own way (e.g., exclusion, violence, lack of a voice, or social isolation), but they also show a strong willingness to drive change.
During the programme, they will receive training on gender equality, communication, leadership, storytelling, and policy influence/advocacy. This helps them develop not only knowledge and skills, but also the self-confidence to take action. Training changemakers goes beyond transferring knowledge—it is about empowering people: giving them the right knowledge, skills, and values so they can take meaningful action.
After the training, they will take initiative in their own communities through workshops, conversations, and outreach, creating safe spaces for dialogue and reflection. In doing so, they will directly reach more than 200 young people. By placing young people at the heart of change, the project builds greater awareness, mutual understanding, and an inclusive society in which equality and active citizenship become the norm.
This project is organised and implemented by HWA, with financial support from Connect for Global Change.
