What is the project about?
With the HWA Starter Plan: Learning to Budget, the Humanitarian Welfare Association aims to empower newcomers and people with a migration background to become more financially self-reliant. Many people encounter an unfamiliar and complex financial system when they arrive in Belgium, which can lead to stress, debt, or exclusion.
This project therefore offers low-threshold, easy-to-understand support on budgeting, financial rights, and how to find help. Through training sessions supported by visual and practical learning materials, participants gain insight into income and expenses, fixed costs, and planning. Those who wish can also receive individual follow-up support afterwards to map out their household budget in a concrete way.
By focusing on clear communication, transparency, and a tailored offer, the HWA Starter Plan seeks to prevent financial problems, boost self-confidence, and enable participants to take a stronger role in society from the very start of their integration journey.
The project is organized and carried out by HWA, with financial support from the King Baudouin Foundation.
